Getting to the field course site
The field course will meet in the village of Ivalo, and from there travel to the field station. Ivalo is small (~4000 people), but is well serviced with a small airport and transport links by bus and rail.
There are a number of options to get to Ivalo. If you choose to fly, you typically need to connect in Helsinki. A flight from Helsinki to Ivalo costs around £200 at its cheapest through to £400 at its most expensive. Other airports tend to be more expensive. Another option is to fly to either Helsinki or Tampere, and get a connecting train/bus (booking from http://www.vr.fi). |
AccommodationIvalo is a tourist gateway to Lapland, so despite its small size there is a range of hotels, guest houses and other options. Book early.
Travel tipsThe currency of Finland is Euros. Finnish and Swedish are the official languages, but English is widely spoken especially in tourist areas.
